Gotisches Haus - Hutmuseum

Hello lovelies,

wir waren gestern im Gotischen Haus hier in Bad Homburg. Es war unser erster Besuch dort, obwohl ich schon so viel von meinen Patienten vom Haus gehört hatte... 

yesterday we've been to the "Gotisches Haus" (Gothic House) here in Bad Homburg. It's been our first visit, even though I've heard so much about it from my patients...

Also, das Gotische Haus ist ein ehemaliges Jagd- und Lustschlösschen der Landgrafen von Hessen-Homburg aus dem 19. Jahrhundert und beherbergt heute das städtische Museum. Die Architektur des Gebäudes – eine Verbindung von Elementen der Neugotik und klassizistisch klaren Kuben – geht auf die Landgräfin Elizabeth (1770–1840) zurück. Der aus dem englischen Königshaus stammenden Erbauerin ist im Museum eine Abteilung gewidmet, die Einblicke in ihr künstlerisches Werk gibt. 

Well, the "Gotische Haus", a former hunting and pleasure palace of the landgrave of Hesse-Homburg from the 19th century, now contains the urban museum. The architecture of the building - a mixture of elements of the neo-gothic and neo-classical cubes - goes back to female landgrave Elizabeth (170-1840). One section in the museum is dedicated to her, being a descendant of the british royal house, and showing her artistic works. 

 Eine Besonderheit im Gotischen Haus ist das in Deutschland einzigartige „Hutmuseum“. Rund 300 Exponate veranschaulichen die Kulturgeschichte der Kopfbedeckung. Dargestellt wird in der Ausstellung die modische Entwicklung, ebenso wie die jeweilige gesellschaftliche Bedeutung und Funktion. Dabei reicht das Spektrum von der Zylindermode über eine Auswahl von Berufsmützen, Modehüten der Damen bis hin zu Trachtenhauben. Zu sehen ist außerdem der „Homburg-Hut“, der um 1880 erstmals nach dem Geschmack des Prinzen von Wales in der Hutfabrik Möckel angefertigt und weltberühmt wurde.

Für uns waren aber die Probier-Hüte das Tollste. Da gab es mehrere Ständer volles ausgefallener Hüte und nochmal einen großen Korb voll.

 One specialty of the "Gotische Haus" is the for Germany unique hatmuseum. About 300 exhibits are demonstrating the cultural history of the headdress. They show the fashionable evolution as well as the social meaning and function. And they range from top-hat fashion to a selection of working hats, fashion hats for the ladies to costume bonnets. They also show the "Homburger Hut" (Homburg Hat), a hat firstly made in 1880 to the taste of the Prince Of Wales in the hat fabric Möckel and then becoming famous around the world..

For us the many hats to try were the best part of the museum. There were lots of stands full of eccentric hats and another big basket full.

Es gab jetzt keine Sonderausstellung im Museum. Der Eintritt pro Person lag damit bei 2€ und es gab wirklich viel zu sehen^^ Das Museum ist vielleicht etwas klein, aber wunderhübsch und einen Besuch auf jeden Fall wert.

There wasn't any special exhibition that day. So we just had to pay 2€ admission per Person and there was really a lot to see^^ The museum might me a little small, but it's adorable and definitley worth a visit.
